T h e P o s s i b i l i t i e s o f a M e a l

This will be a monthly entry of ideas for experiential ways of eating. Transcendent and surreal, or just a way to tap into emotions and connections. To build connections and new layers of sense memory. Being the first blog post it seems underdeveloped and a bit rushed, but for the sake of putting something out there, this is what I've given you.

An amuse bouche of green tea, single bites of candied ginger, and a spray bottle of sea water(kelp and sea salt)for the tongue should be had along the walls of the room in small and delicate chairs, at bedside tables and lamp stands. After each guest has had time to be acquainted with one another(mingling with the unknown is highly recommended)everyone is invited to the center of the room where long and low wooden tables(roughly made, bark from trees, dried leaves)are placed with bamboo mats on the floor for a seat.

The meal should be layers of textures(sound, mouth feel, visually)above all, but textural in the way water is. Smooth, bubbly, foamy(forgive me), cutting, sensual, phallic, and much from matriarchy. Everything about the meal should evoke a futurist point of view while still being tenacious to the boudoir, bourgeois, and renaissance. All is real, all is over the top. You must submit yourself to a fast paced and ephemeral meal.

In light of the boudoir, if you feel the need to...by all means go with it...touch who you will(with consent). It would be an honor if you were driven to that conclusion.

The lighting will change with the pace of the meal. Soft whites, shadows, grey scales, pixelation, modern in finite geometries. Light comes from many different angles, most unexpected(underneath the table, in your food, from projections on the wall).

The manner in which you eat every day will not be how this meal is enjoyed. You will suck from tubes tiny tentacles. Soft needles of flavor that roll and caress your tongue, dissolving. You will drink from a nipple fenugreek and peppermint, or less literally, lick sugar and miso from a gelatinous lime or mango. A bite of fish will be taken from the end of a warm leaf shaped spoon and you will use that spoon to crack open a lobster containing soup, which will be drunk from the shell.

Eating should be an experience. It should be curious and experimental. It should tap into your emotions and challenge your views on both every day things and things which are happening a thousand miles from you.

Being that it is February and citrus is at it's peak, here is a quick recipe for a mid morning snack:

ingredients:

2: people(any two people who are close and want to have fun with food)
1: grapefruit

preparation:

cut the grapefruit in half and section the fruit from it's membrane. spoon all the fruit from the pith and place it into a bowl just large enough or too large.

method for eating:

while sitting across from each other on the floor, eat the sectioned fruit with your hands(feeding it to one another or yourself). Once you have finished all the fruit from the bowl, pour any juice remaining in the bowl into the two halves of emptied pith. squeeze the juice from the fruit into each others mouths. have fun.
